The oldest monarchy in the world begins a new era this week.
When officially becoming the new emperor of Japan, Naruhito began a period called "Reiwa" (order and harmony). He assumed the Throne of the Chrysammim after his father, Akihito, abdicated in his favor on April 30.
Akihito was 30 years in power and was the first emperor, in 200 years of history, to abdicate to the throne in Japan.
